The stories of two men – divided by age and aspirations but united by a disturbing sense of failure – intermingle in this wry, absurdist and strikingly original film. Afterthought is the debut feature of Israeli director Elad Keidan, whose short Anthem won Cannes’ Cinefondation in 2008. Itay Tiran delivers yet another strong performance, and Haifa’s hillside and port views lend themselves to the protagonists’ quest to move upward or, alternatively, sail away from the city, and their lives.

The film has won 3 Israeli Academy Awards: best script, best editing, and best sound design. The film was awarded best film at the Haifa film festival.
