Louis-Ferdinand Celine, one of France’s greatest writers of the 20th century, was both celebrated for his literary innovations and reviled for his virulent anti-Semitism and collaboration with the Nazi regime. This fascinating film focuses on the writer’s meeting with one of his admirers, American Jewish scholar Milton Hindus, while the former is living in forced exile in Denmark. It doesn’t take long for Celine’s admirer to start questioning whether it is actually possible to separate the man and his values from his art. An engaging and insightful film about morals, art and identity in post-war Europe.
