“Eccentricity and charm abound in this documentary about the rare book world”

– The New York Times

Synopsis

Currently stealing the show on our TV screens as people’s favourite background, books have been an inseparable part of what makes us human for centuries, and, because of that, have persistently defied expectations of their demise in an increasingly digitised world. This delightful new documentary introduces us to some of the obsessives who have made their bibliophile inclinations their life’s pursuit: antiquarian booksellers and collectors, many of whom are Jewish, who admire books for the ideas they contain but, admittedly, their covers, too. Executive produced by Parker Posey and featuring Jewish authors Fran Lebowitz and Susan Orlean, The Booksellers is a fascinating and amusing glimpse into a magical world of first editions, rare dust jackets and not-so-rare tweed jackets.
