An acutely observed gem of a movie. Family tyranny and tradition frame this complex drama which is both heart-rending and humorous. The film is set in an immigrant community where a man over 30 who is not married, threatens to disgrace his family. Zaza (Lior Ashkenazi – Walk on WaterEli & Ben) is an eligible bachelor whose family are determined to see him married to a young virgin according to their Georgian (former USSR) Jewish traditions.

However unknown to his family, Zaza has already met the love of his life, although fiery Morrocan beauty Judith (Ronit Elkabetz – The Band’s VisitJaffa) is a divorcee with a six-year-old daughter. At the core of the film Koshashvili directs an erotic bedroom scene, with Zaza and Judith, which remains unrivalled in international cinema. The passion of their sexual chemistry is mirrored throughout the film by the extreme ties of parental intrusion into his affairs.
