Beitar Yerushalayim is Israel’s most high profile and controversial football team, traditionally supported by a fiercely loyal fanbase of Jews originating from Arab countries. For years the team languished at the bottom of the league until Russian oligarch, Arcadi Gaydamak, bought the club and invested $100 million. However the signing of two Muslim players from Chechnya tests the power and loyalties of the fans and their beloved team to its limits, releasing a disturbing and violent strain of xenophobia and racism that threatens to the tear them apart. A fascinating and uncomfortable insight into the connections between football, politics and money.
