In Western Ukraine, 38 adults and children from five Jewish families took refuge in a cave to escape the Nazis – they survived underground for more than a year and a half, the longest underground survival in recorded human history.

Living in perpetual twilight, collecting water that dripped off rocks and stealing food at night, the families survived until being discovered by the Gestapo in 1943.

The survivors considered their story ‘too incredible’ to tell… this extremity makes for a film that is utterly captivating, as the viewer witnesses the human capacity for bravery and ingenuity.

A superbly produced film that transcends perceived Holocaust knowledge.
