The first British screening of a para-documentary movie by Roberta Grossman about the Oyneg Shabes Archives collected under the supervision of Emmanuel Ringelblum (1900-1944) in Warsaw. The event will be a part of the global screening of this movie during the International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD), in up to 500 venues in the world. The event is jointly organised with the European Association of POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, and JW3.

In 1941, the Jewish historian Emanuel Ringelblum and others founded an underground archive in the Warsaw Ghetto. Various different materials were hidden in metal boxes and milk churns: posters, newspaper reports, ration cards, diaries and poems, along with documents verifying the Nazi regime’s policy of extermination. It was designed to record for posterity how Jews lived in the Ghetto and how they were murdered. The film reconstructs the creation of this encyclopaedia of remembrance.

The film will be followed by a discussion with Barry Langford, Professor of Film Studies at the Royal Holloway, University of London and member of the Holocaust Research Institute, and Anna C. Zielinska, Philosopher at the University of Lorraine and executive director of the European Association of the Museum of The History of Polish Jews POLIN (AEMJP)
