Winner of Best Israeli Film Award at the 2017 Docaviv festival, Wall is a highly original film, where fragments of private phone calls between the director and her family and friends complements, or often clashes with, the footage, filmed over a year at the women’s section of The Western Wall. Ifergan employs both aural and visual channels to observe the tension between the public and the private spheres in Israel. The result is both a candid account of a marriage breakdown and a detached observation of state and religious rituals.
Screening is accompanied by a recorded discussion with Robyn Ashworth-Steen, Principal Rabbi of Manchester Reform Synagogue, and Cathy Gelbin, Professor of Film and German Studies at the University of Manchester. The discussion is chaired by Judy Ironside MBE, Founder and President of UK Jewish Film.
UK Jewish Film is delighted to present this special screening in partnership with The Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Manchester.
Available now until Mon 12 July for £3.99, on UK Jewish Film On Demand.
