This riveting Spanish drama tells the extraordinary story of Elisabeth Eidenbenz, who, throughout the 1930s and 40s, under the careful scrutiny of Pétain’s fascist regime, ran a maternity home in the South of France. She risked her life so that those of others – pregnant women, mothers, children and babies, Jews and non-Jews alike, all fleeing the horror of war – could be saved. The Light of Hope sheds light on a little-known rescue operation and celebrates the power of women to conquer the evils of war.
