Strangers No More

Based in Tel Aviv, Bialik-Rogozin School, is the only public school of its kind in Israel. Children come from 48 countries and are taught Hebrew and various life skills. Muslims and Jews, and others from differing backgrounds, are brought together, learning Hebrew and receiving the vital emotional support they need. The principals and the teachers do their utmost to ensure that the children and their parents, who are mostly immigrant workers, are given the help they need in their new lives. The film follows a number of children who have encountered genocide and severe poverty in their lives and many who are fleeing from life threatening situations. Despite the fact that the needs of the children are so great there is a sense of optimism that pervades the school and the nurturing environment brings a sense of hope to all the students, helping them to overcome the obstacles in their lives.
