Since Europe closed its borders in 2006, thousands of Eritrean refugees have fled their military dictator-ruled country north of Israel, their gate to the west, crossing the Sinai desert. Many are kidnapped by Bedouins there, and taken to hidden camps.
Sound Of Torture intimately follows Meron Estefanos, an Eritrean journalist and activist living in Sweden, whose online radio programme ‘Voices of Eritreans’ contacts both kidnappers, and hostages – in an effort to raise awareness of this shocking circle of violence.
